Every family kitchen needs a nook for stashing paper, pens, homework and schedules. Not to mention a charging station! Corral this part of life in a convenient area tucked away from the prep stations.

The kitchen faucet, inspired by commercial faucets, is a focal point of the island. It worked in the space because of the ten foot ceilings and the more minimal pendant lights.
The island was re-oriented to run the length of the kitchen which added a substantial amount of storage, as well as seating. We lost the breakfast area from the original kitchen, but more than compensated with four seats front and centre.
Another reference to commercially inspired fixures with the exhaust hood. This hood helps break up the white cabinets and makes a real focal point out of the stove. Using a slide-in range, the beautiful herringbone backsplash has room to shine.
Such a beautiful backsplash doesn't need much introduction. We decided to use it right across without any additional detail to keep it modern and let it stand out on its' own.
The island stands out in a different colour. A charcoal grey was chosen so it would still contrast nicely with the lighter grey porcelain floor.
Hard-wearing quartz countertops and porcelain floor tiles will withstand any young family with toddlers. The grey island won't show fingerprints as easily and provides a stylish contrast to the white background.
